Hangzhou Arbitration Commission / Hangzhou Court of International Arbitration (HZAC) was established by Hangzhou Municipal People's Government in accordance with the PRC Arbitration Law after registering with Zhejiang Provincial Department of Justice in August 1996. With the goal of striving to become a world class arbitral institution, HZAC has been adhering to the core value of "Impartiality, Efficiency and Harmony". Following a working principle of "Scalization, Standardization, Intelligentization and Internationalization", HZAC has been strengthening the concept of providing arbitration services, achieving a steady and sound development in the arbitration field.

In accordance with the PRC Arbitration Law and the Articles of Association of HZAC, HZAC has been forging ahead with determination, reforming and innovating, gradually through the steps of scalization with the establishment of six courts, three centers and two branches, namely, Hangzhou Arbitration Court of International Trade, Hangzhou Arbitration Court of Internet, Hangzhou Arbitration Court of Finance, Hangzhou Arbitration Court of Real Estate, Hangzhou Arbitration Court of Trade and Hangzhou Arbitration Court of Intellectual Property; HZAC Mediation Center, HZAC Efficient Processing Center for Series Cases and HZAC Small Claims Cases Handling Center; Xiaoshan Sub-Commission, Yuhang Sub-Commission and other internal departments.

By the end of 2023, the number of civil and commercial cases received has been nearly 170,000, with the amount of disputes over 130 billion yuan. HZAC has been playing an increasingly important role in providing diversified solutions for civil and commercial disputes. At present, HZAC has more than 1000 arbitrators from both home and abroad, including distinguished professors and lawyers of law, economics, trade and technology, as well as professionals with rich experience in dealing with all kinds of commercial affairs in finance, construction, real estate and other fields.

In April 2024, HZAC officially hung out the shingle of Hangzhou Court of International Arbitration, committed to building a new international dispute resolution platform that gathers high-end elements and exploring new paths for diversified international commercial dispute resolution, to empower the high-quality development of international arbitration with high-level foreign-related rule of law, and to build a new highland of opening-up with higher levels of openness, better business environment, and stronger radiation effect.

In the future, HZAC will constantly give full play to its function in resolving economic conflicts, maintaining economic order and social stability, to offer efficient and high-quality legal services in protecting the legal interests of parties involved, and to provide a solid legal foundation for the development of market economy.
