The 7th Hangzhou Arbitration Commission Renewal Meeting was held

The 7th HZAC Renewal Meeting was held on July 24, 2024. The meeting set out the goal of the new commission, that is, to make every effort to to become an international renowned and domestic first-class arbitral institution, building a market-oriented, law-based and internationalized first-class business environment.

Huan Jinyuan, Deputy Mayor of Hangzhou and Director of HZAC, attented and addressed the conference. Cheng Xiaodong, Deputy Secretary of Hangzhou Municipal Government, moderated the conference. Xu Qian, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice, and Executive Deputy Director of HZAC, delivered the work report of the 6th HZAC.

Huan Jinyuan appreciated the 6th HZAC in deepening institutional reform, adjusting and optimizing the internal organizational structure, enhancing the ability of serving the national strategies of opening-up and development, making contribution to solving domestic and international commercial disputes and building a market-oriented, law-based and internationalized first-class business environment.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to arbitration. At the 10th collective study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the need to develop foreign-related legal services and to cultivate arbitration institutions of international prestige. Doing a good job in arbitration is not only the inherent necessity for implementing the important guiding principle of Xi Jinping's instructions and the realistic needs of fostering a world-class business environment, but also essential for high-standard opening up. Huan Jinyuan stressed that it is necessary to deeply understand the importance of high-quality development of arbitration and pointed out that the 7th HZAC shall further clarify the targeting and positioning for high-quality development of arbitration, and endeavor to revise internal governance mechanism, improve quality and brand awareness of its arbitration services, to forge a internationally renowned arbitral institution with credibility and competitiveness. Moreover, Huan pointed out that the 7th HZAC shall further form strong synergies for high-quality development of arbitration to enhance its quality, efficiency and international influence by means of following the guidance and leadership of the party, committing to openness and cooperation, deepening institutional reform and persisting in coordinated promotion.

The conference aimed to build a new highland of opening-up with higher levels of openness, better business environment, and stronger radiation effect, to support Hangzhou in realizing modernization with Chinese characteristics through high-quality development of arbitration and to provide legal support for Hangzhou to become a world-class modernized international socialist metropolis and the model for Chinese modernization.

At the conference, Huan Jinyuan granted certificates of appointment to the Governing Body Members and the members of the Board on Arbitration Evaluation and Supervision.

More than 80 representatives from Zhejiang Provincial Department of Justice, municipal government agencies, state-owned enterprises and Hangzhou-based financial institutions attended the meeting.
