On September 10, 2024, the Symposium on Promoting Innovations in Maritime Arbitration Rules and Building a World-Class Arbitration Institution was successfully held at the Bund in Shanghai. This event was hosted by the Shanghai International Shipping Center Development Promotion Association, and co-organized by the Shanghai Arbitration Commission and Shanghai Maritime University, with approximately one hundred participants from judicial authorities, transportation industry regulatory departments, and sectors including arbitration, finance, insurance, shipping, and ports. HZAC was invited to attend the symposium.
Sun Haihua, Vice President of the Shanghai Arbitration Commission and Secretary-General of the Shanghai International Shipping Center Development Promotion Organization, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the organizer. Prominent speakers included Xu Zuyuan, former Deputy Minister of Transport, Chief Expert at the China Association for Science and Technology, and the first Maritime Goodwill Ambassador of the International Maritime Organization, along with Zhou Hanmin, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPPCC. During the meeting, representatives engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the Direction of Reform and Improvement of China's Maritime Arbitration System and the Pain Points and Challenges Faced by Shipowners and Ship Management Companies, providing insights into the correct direction for innovation and reform of the maritime arbitration system in China.
Bao Li, Deputy Secretary-General of HZAC, represented HZAC to attend the ceremony for new advisory members and participants into the Yangtze River Economic Belt Shipping Arbitration Alliance and the second working meeting of the Alliance. He also spoke at the roundtable discussion focused on Building a World-Class Arbitration Institution. As the central city of the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta, Hangzhou is at the forefront of regional integration. HZAC's decision to join the Alliance is a proactive measure to implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and to promote innovations in maritime arbitration rules and to build a world-class arbitration institution.
